Sunday morning we woke up early and ate a Chinese version of a "western style" breakfast. I'm not sure I've ever eaten fried collard greens for breakfast, but we did this morning. We then boarded a bus for Taroko Marble Gorge just outside of Hualien, Taiwan. It was phenomenal. We spent all day hiking through the gorge and up to a Buddhist temple, through the jungle and caves and on overlook ledges. We then went to a hostel up in the top of the mountains where we were served a traditional Taiwanese meal. The kids were really brave and tried everything. It is a cross between Chinese food and aboriginal food (aborigines are the Polynesian-related natives of Taiwan). Let me just say, Taiwanese food is a million times better than Korean food! We finished the day off at the beach which was not sand, but tiny pebbles made of various colors of marble. It was a fantastic day and one of the most beautiful places we have ever been.
